Bill Gates Statement on Intergovernmental Agreement with ASU Focusing on Sustainability

“Yesterday, the City Council Finance, Efficiency & Economy Subcommittee, for which I am chairman, voted to approve an intergovernmental agreement with Arizona State University as part of the city’s Reimagine Phoenix plan – with the goal of reducing the amount of trash that makes it into the landfill by 40 percent by the year 2020. The agreement will maximize the city’s efforts by utilizing the resources of private companies and identifying and implementing new technologies. The investment in new technologies will accelerate our diversion efforts and keep service costs steady for our residents.

“We also approved an economic development strategy that will offer a roadmap to foster economic growth by improving infrastructure, marketing our business friendly assets, creating major employment corridors and opening our arms to entrepreneurship. This investment today will set us on the right course for success in the decades to come.”
